The programme implementation areas are historically inhabited by the very marginalized resource poor slum dwellers faced with more less similar development challenges which cuts across all the multi-faced with more less similar development challenges which cuts across all multi-faceted dynamics of poverty –including but not limited to high levels of low income poverty levels, poor infrastructural set-ups inadequate access to quality and safe drinking water and sanitation services, basic healthcare services and education facilities and significantly dilapidated or non existing district health systems status especially in the context of HIV/AIDS Care and prevention programming activities
The end of project assignment report details out the activities that the Lake Victoria integrated poverty alleviation consortium (LAVIPAC) planned and undertook under the Kisumu City Slums and Peri-urban poverty alleviation programme for the period January 2007-December 2007.
- Improve access to water and health services in Manyatta and Obunga (slum settlement) and South West Kisumu
- Improve Household Incomes of slums residents through appropriate income generating activities and agri-business focusing on women in general and female headed households in particular
- Promote HIV/AIDS mitigation support groups and VCT uptake initiative in Manyatta A and B and Obunga slum
- Advocate for improved Governance in Management of City resources for better service delivery to the poor community within Kisumu City slum sites by December 2008
- Improve consortium management performance for efficient and effective output delivery to the target community by December 2008
