Every child should have access to clean water and decent toilets at school. The shocking shortage of basic sanitation leads to the contraction of diarrhoea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid, and even polio, which are all transmitted through faecally contaminated water.
Too feeble to attend work or school, many people are forced to spend more on expensive medication while continuing to get trapped in endless cycles of poverty. As well as being a public health issue, sanitation is also, indisputably, a major contributor to social injustice and poverty.
Without access to clean water at school, children can be forced to walk miles to quench thirst and wash their hands. They often have to drink contaminated water from swamps which leads to waterborne diseases such as cholera and typhoid. A lot of time is lost as they try to recover their health hence poor performance at school.
The dignity of our children is also compromised as they struggle without good toilets at school. The Available pit latrines are commonly makeshift made of polythene walls which often fall off with string winds, they overflow and cannot be emptied while some start sinking into the ground.
We believe that no child should have to survive in these despicable conditions. It’s not just about toilets; it’s about respect. Thanks to our volunteers, donors and supporters, we’re able to give more respect, dignity and hope to some of the poorest people in our communities.
Every year, over 800,000 children under five die from some form of waterborne disease globally; dirty hands, flies and contaminated surroundings make home a deadly place to be.
Our mission to build decent toilets and hand washing stations and incinerators have transformed the lives of thousands in the communities where we work. Whole societies are healthier, adults can go to work, and children can stay in school. By making more money and spending less on medication, people are much better off. This all contributes to a happier future full of prospects for everyone.
