ABOUT US
WHO WE ARE
SANA was established from the Rural Domestic Water Supply and Sanitation Programme (RDWSSP), an 18-year old bilateral arrangement between the Government of Kenya (GoK) and the Government of Netherlands in an effort to encourage and promote further propagation of WASH development in the region.
SANA has since developed into a respected entity in the water sector, having successfully facilitated a number of community and school based water supply, sanitation and health initiatives, in both rural and urban settings in Western Kenya and the Rift Valley.
Though our main offices are located in Kisumu city within western Kenya region, we work in more than five counties in Kenya.
OUR MANDATE
HOW WE WORK
SANA International is registered in Kenya with WASH service delivery as a core mandate. We work with carefully selected partners to ensure sustainable and universal access to clean and safe water, improved sanitation and proper hygiene practices.
This is achieved through development and promotion of sustainable, cost-effective, environmentally friendly and innovative WASH solutions, and leveraging resources towards operationalization and scale up of the same.
OUR CONTRIBUTION
SANA seeks to contribute to the various WASH sector goals of the GoK, selected County Governments, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These include amongst others, ambitions towards universal access to WASH services, greater sustainability and functionality of the WASH facilities as well as good WASH governance.
In particular, SANA strives to facilitate improved system level performance of the WASH sector within prioritised geographical regions through introduction of innovative WASH solutions, knowledge management and collaborative WASH programming.
FOCUS & NICHE
SANA has to date established a niche in facilitation of community based and school WASH service provision. Geographically, SANA has focused its programmes on the urban and peri-urban areas in Western Kenya and South Rift, but collaborating with other national entities to impact national level WASH policies and practices.
The key interventions undertaken by SANA included development of WASH facilities, strengthening WASH governance structures, promotion of low cost WASH technologies, advancement of WASH business models, support to school WASH, as well as capacity development.
